[00332] A solution of tert-butyl 2-oxopiperidine-1 -carboxylate (5.4 g, 27 mmol) in THF (100 mL) was added LDA (16.2 mL, 32.4 mmol) at -78 C. After stirring for 0.5 h, phenyl selenisum chloride (7.94 g, 41 .5 mmol) was added. The mixture was stirred at -78 C for 4.5 hrs and then quenched with H2O (30 mL), diluted with brine (200 mL). The aqueous layer was extracted with CH2CI2 (200 mL x 2). The combined organic phase was dried, filtered and condensed. The residue was purified by flash chromatography (100% petroleum ether to petroleum ether/EtOAc = 5:1 ) to give compound tert-butyl 2-oxo-3- (phenylselanyl)piperidine-l -carboxylate (4.27 g, 45%) as an orange solid.
