This mixture was allowed to stir at ambient temperature for 3 days and was then heated to reflux for 23 hours.. The precipitate was filtered, washed with fresh diethyl ether, and then dried under reduced pressure at ambient temperature, giving ethyl 1-benzyl-3-piperidinecarboxylate 1-methiodide (340.9 mg) as an off white solid.
