To a homogeneous mixture of tert-butyl 4-(aminomethyl)-4-methylpiperidine- 1- carboxylate (53.0 mg, 0.23 mmol) in anhydrous DCM (2 mL), under nitrogenatmosphere, was added DIPEA (0.17 mL, 0.97 mmol) followed by 4-chlorobenzoyl chloride (0.05 mL, 0.390 mmol). The resulting mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 4 hours, before being partitioned between DCM and water. The layers were separated and the aqueous layer was extracted twice more with DCM. These organic extracts were combined with the original organic layer and were concentrated invacuo to afford the title compound as an amber residue, which was used in the next step without purification.
