The product was reduced using sodium borohydride to obtain N-phenyl-1-(2-phenylethyl)-4-piperidinamine(despropionylfentanyl). Despropionylfentanyl was butyrylated using butyric anhydride to give butyrylfentanyl. The butyrylfentanyl free base was converted to the hydrochloride salt by the addition of concentrated hydrochloric acid-methanol(1 : 9), then the hydrochloride salt was precipitated by the addition of diethylether to obtain butyrylfentanyl hydrochloride as a white powder., 3612-20-2
